On June 12th, 2010, Argentina defeated Nigeria 1-0 in the World Cup group match in Group B and won the World Cup. On June 17th, in the South African World Cup Group B competition held in Johannesburg, Argentina beat South Korea 4-1. On June 23, Maradona led the Argentine team to a 2-0 victory over the Greek team, with a three-game victory and the team’s top promotion. On June 27th, in the South African World Cup 1/8 final, Argentina defeated Mexico 3-1 to reach the quarterfinals. On July 3, in the quarter-finals of the World Cup, Argentina lost 0-4 to Germany and missed the World Cup semi-finals. After Argentina was eliminated by the German team, Maradona announced his intention to resign in the locker room. On July 28, the Argentine Football Association officially announced that it would not renew Maradona and Maradona no longer served as head coach of the Argentine national team.
May 16, 2011, Maradona formally became the head coach of the UAE Alvas Football Club, the two sides signed a two-year contract.
On July 11, 2012, the UAE Alvarez Club officially announced the dismissal of Maradona's head coach. At this point, Maradona coached the club for only one season, for a period of 1 year and 2 months. Under his leadership, the Alvaras Club won only the eighth place in the league, missed the penalty shootout in the Gulf Cup finals, and lost four in the President’s and Chiefs’ Cups.
In June 2015, Maradona formally confirmed his position as president of FIFA and won the full support of the President of Venezuela.
In the early morning of March 10, 2017, Maradona officially announced on social media that he would work in China in the future. In April, Maradona said through the secretary that no further cooperation request has been received for the time being. On May 14, Fujairah Club, the second-tier UAE football league, announced that Maradona will be the team's coach.
